You are invited!
We have a Good Reason to bring everyone together.
We are getting married!
It would be a pleasure for us to enjoy Your company at our wedding.
Our Journey so far
What got us here? Our paths first crossed in June 2016 on a three-day off-road trekking in Myanmar. Unlike most people, our first encounter did not entail any romantic dinner or fancy cocktails, instead we spent the first three days discussing squatting techniques and bad-stomach issues in detail. Starting off primitive turn out to be the key to success, as we shortly after hooked up and joined for more adventures in Asia. Sofia convinced Michael to come see the orangutans in Sumatra leading to a week in the jungle that gave us plenty of time to get to know each other and philosophy about what life is all about for us.
Coming from two different worlds – with several bumps on our first road – the beginning wasn’t only smooth. However, as so many true love stories – “you have to go against the odds to get there” – so did we. During a few episodes down the path one or the other of us had to leave the comfort zone and our own expectations in order to be together. Turned out we were both brave enough to follow a unusual path together, guided by our feelings and love for each other.
In a little more than two years’ time we have enjoyed each other’s companionship as vagabonds in 14 different countries and 3 continents. We most certainly have put our relationship through extreme tests as we have trekked the Himalayas to getting stuck in mud in the countryside of Laos. Truth be told we had plenty of opportunities to get on each other’s nerves and yet it is safe to say we can handle it 😊. From the start we learned to compromise and support each other’s dreams as Sofia joined Michael in his seasons as ski instructor in the Alps and vice versa when Michael joined to be the perfect research assistant for Sofia’s chimpanzee work in Uganda.
In 2018 we decided to domesticate ourselves a bit and settled in in a flat outside Zurich in Switzerland, were we live now since May 2018. In august 2018 the greatest challenge and adventure started as little Luna crashed our twosome. We love her too bits and we are happily entering the next life challenge of parenting as husband and wife. Our threesome is thereby ready to climb new peaks in life!
When & Where
July 5 - 7th, 2019
The wedding will take place at an altitude of 1300 m at Alpenoase Sonnhof in Hinterglemm, Austria on Saturday 6.7. We hope that you can make it that day. However, because we don’t get to see so many of you very often and because the place is simply beautiful – we would love to take this occasion to hang out a bit more. Our wedding will be very international and many of our family members and friends will meet here for the first time. Therefore, we would be extremely happy to spend the whole weekend together to have relaxed time to meet and greet everyone. The Saalbach region is one of Austria’s top destinations and offers plenty of outdoor-activities for a couple of days of fun for everyone’s taste also making it worthwhile for far away travelers. We will be around even longer so surely there be company for the ones with holiday feelings.
How to get there
The good news is even though we chose to celebrate up in the mountains and out in the green, the location is easily accessible with public transport, as well as private car.
For our guests coming by car:
Coming from Styria or Vienna: You can just drive towards Salzburg.
Coming from Switzerland: You can either go over Munich or directly through the beautiful valleys of Austria. From Zurich you will spend roughly 5 hours in your car either way. Having said that, the direct way through Austria is much more beautiful. If you prefer highways, over Munich is your route.
Coming from Germany: It is best to head towards Munich first and from Munich follow the Highway A8 south towards Salzburg. (be aware to leave the highway half way to Salzburg)
To reach the target destination you drive through both the villages of Saalbach and Hinterglemm. Right before the two Gondolas “Zwoelfer Nordbahn” and “Hochalmbahn” turn right and follow the signs uphill to the wedding camp.
For our international guests arriving by plane:
Following three international airports make the best options:
- Airport Salzburg is closest and only 1,5 hours away by car. By public transport you can reach the destination in 2,5 hours. Train and bus connections can be booked under www.oebb.at. This option can of course be combined with wandering about the city of Mozart as Salzburg offers interesting historical and cultural treats.
- Airport Munich is from most departures the most convenient option. As Munich ha a large international airport booking early enough you can also close some cheap deals. From Munich Airport you can reach Saalbach by car in 2,5 hours or by public transport in 3 hours 50 min (www.oebb.at). Alternatively, one can take a train to neighboring village Zell am See (3 hours) which is a nice destination to take a day stroll.
- Airport Vienna is further away but in case you want to combine your travels with a city trip to Austria’s beautiful capital this is the chance. From Vienna you can take the train to Saalbach (5, 5 hours) respectively drive by car in 4 hours or you go with the luxury way and fly to Salzburg 😊
For those who like to drive, we will assist in creating groups that can use car rental and hit the road together depending on which airport you plan to fly in to.
Accomodation
The wedding location – Alpenoase Sonnhof – also function as a hotel and can accommodate up to 60 people. Thus, many of our wedding guests can stay here. Rooms come in different price categories and can be booked through us (first come – first served). Sonnhof has a smaller Spa and Sauna area as well as a natural pond with swimming and chillax possibilities. For our guests with smaller children and babies we recommend staying here as you will have the chance to put the kids to bed, monitor them whilst you can still join the party at the same location.
The room prices below are per person and contains half pension, meaning breakfast and dinner is included. Additionally, for the night of the wedding Saturday-Sunday there will be a 15 Euro reduction from the price (also per person).
The region Saalbach – Hinterglemm is packed with hotels and Holiday apartments. So if you prefer to stay down in the valley, you can find your preferred option here: www.saalbach.com
From center of the village Hinterglemm, you will reach the wedding location in 10 minutes by car
